| Hi everyone. My name's Adam. I've been collecting LaserDiscs for around a year now and and my collection currently stands at 81 Discs and a Pioneer CLD-V2300D which is awesome! I think LD's are excellent, much better than DVD in so many ways. Glad to be a part of this new forum! My collection! | |

| Welcome to the forum, Adam. Early days yet but hopefully the forum will take off.
Our laserdisc model numbers are pretty close, I've got a Pioneer CLD V2120D. Yours is a higher number so I'd guess it's a nicer machine, but I have heard that Pioneer laserdisc player numbering can be quite confusing so who knows... |

| It's good to know you, Adam. I'm intrigued. What made you get into laserdiscs when you did? And are you interested in any particular types - PAL or NTSC? Movies or music? Vintage or contemporary? (Clearly, there's hardly anything post-2000, but you know what I mean.) And where are you looking to find stuff? eBay is by no means the best source - go direct to a good dealer if you can find one. Most of the best online sites are in the US where shipping and customs charges make purchasing very expensive, but there are still a few decent traders specialising in LDs here in the UK. I could point you in the right direction, if interested.

| I too would be interested to hear about good traders. I found one guy who sometimes trades them in Newcastle but he's pricing himself way above ebay so I've never bought anything from him. |

Good hunting, Kenneth I got in to LaserDiscs by accident really. I'm a big fan of The Lawnmower Man and it was around a year ago when I was searching ebay for stuff to do with that, I came across two LaserDiscs. I bought them both thinking they'd be great to display. Not long after I bought a couple other discs just to display in my room but I became really interested in finding out what LD's were all about. So I checked out various sites finding as much info as I could about them and they seemed like more than just a retro movie format. It seemed they still had many advantages over DVD's. Anyway, I ended up getting the CLD-V2300D for my birthday along with a few more discs and was instantly impressed with the quality of the picture and especially the sound. I liked how clear the sound was and how natural the picture looked compared to DVD, which does have a higher resolution but a lot of releases are full of digital artifacts like haloing and macro blocking. LD doesn't have digital crap on the picture. So, that's pretty much how I became a fan of LaserDiscs. It also helps that most of my favourite movies are from the 80's and 90's and are available on LD. As for what I collect, pretty much anything. My collection consists mostly of regular movies, PAL & NTSC but I've also got some special edition box sets (Alien, Aliens, Natural Born Killers and T2). I'm also in to a lot of the CG releases like Beyond the Mind's Eye, Computer Graphics Special, etc. Anything that looks interesting and is affordable. | |
