Although SLEEPY HOLLOW and BRINGING OUT THE DEAD were both scheduled for release on the 3rd of October, 2000, as the last ever USA laserdisc releases, SLEEPY HOLLOW was actually released two days earlier on the 1st while BRINGING OUT THE DEAD was delayed in production and did not appear until October the 26th, making it the clear winner in the "last ever LD" stakes by a good 3 weeks!

There has been an understandable focus of interest on both the last ever releases in 2000 and, thanks to HippieDalek, the first ever releases in 1978, but these are all the NTSC releases. I cannot find the equivalent information for PAL releases in the UK. Does anyone out there know which were the first and last PAL titles, and when were they released?

Production of PAL laserdiscs ceased in 1999, meaning that several planned releases never actually made it to the production stage although cover art had been planned and promotional materials prepared, so which were the last ones to actually get out into the shops? I don't suppose they've been given the collectability value of the last NTSC releases (to say nothing of THE CELL) but I'd still be interested to know which they were - just in case I own them!

In 1999 the only UK pal released was small soldiers although there was still quite a few PAL releases that year in france and germany.

I'm not sure about the first PAL or UK releases, but in the research I've been doing for the wiki I think the first Japanese LD (and the first non US release) was the Exorcist (10JL-1007) in 1979. It also appears to be the first CLV release.

After a quick look around the first UK LD I can find with a confirmed release date is The Onion Field (4064-70) released 05/05/1980.

The last UK LD release I can find with a confirmed date is Small Soldiers (PLFEB 37891) released sometime in 1999.

UK PAL release dates don't seem to be as well documented as US ones so I can't be sure on the above two...but it's a start.
